skippers’ representatve
Sailors can face an array of issues before a distance race—everything from uncertainty regarding the starting sequence to a last-minute rigging failure. To help sailors with navigating any sailing or racing-related issue prior to the race start, we’ve a Skippers’ Representative to field any questions and help race participants do what’s necessary to feel confident about racing their boat in the ALIR.
This year’s Skippers’ Representative is Josh Reisberg. Josh is a Sea Cliff resident and member of both the Sea Cliff Yacht Club and Storm Trysail Club. Josh has been sailing in these waters for the past 20 years—previously in a Pogo 2 Mini 6.50 and now in a J/120, both named Abilyn. He’s sailed in four ALIRs, five Newport-Bermudas (six if you count that one year where he raced his Mini rogue), two Bermuda 1-2s, two Caribbean 600s, one Annapolis-Newport, and many other distance races between NYC and Newport. Josh loves singlehanded sailing and can often be found in the summer sailing solo in DH classes.
But Josh will be the first to tell you that sailing solo doesn’t mean sailing alone. If Josh isn’t solving issues on his boat himself, he knows where to look. So if you have any questions relating to sailing or racing logistics, Josh will field your questions and help get you sorted. Such questions could include, for example:
boat setup
electronics issues
navigation issues
last-minute rigging needs
need crew
best weather resources
where to go to replace your alternator in a pinch (Bronx Ignition—ask Josh how he knows that)
any number of other issues that can arise before a race
If you have sailing or racing questions or need any help getting your boat to the start line, send an email to skippersrep@seacliffyc.org.
